Why Swimming is Geat Exercise at Any Age

Why Swimming is Geat Exercise at Any Age

Swimming is a great way to maintain fitness at any age. However, recent studies have proven that it’s extremely beneficial for senior citizens.

If the warm weather hasn’t already convinced you, here are our top five reasons why you should pick up that towel and head to the pool!

Reduce Your Risk of Developing Osteoporosis

Decreased bone density is a fact of ageing however, swimming is proven to improve bone health. Swimming is a non-weight-bearing exercise, the buoyancy of the water counteracts the effects of gravity. Swimming will improve your cardiovascular fitness and muscle strength and will reduce your risk of developing osteoporosis without putting unnecessary strain on your joints.

Keep your Heart Healthy

Working out in water will boost blood circulation and lower your blood pressure, two very important elements of cardio health. So, Swimming might just be what the doctor ordered!

Get Stronger

Physical activity is important for anyone, however, it becomes increasingly important as you age. Strength training is a great way to counteract weakness and water aerobics or swimming laps are a great tool for managing weight, chronic pain or even diabetes.
